Red Pepper is the common name for Capsicum. Capsicum is the term given to a large variety of tropical pepper plants, it refers to the fruit produces by these plants, in particular the dried fruit that is commonly used for its medicinal properties, eaten as food or an accompaniment to dishes to add zing and flavour and more and more frequently used these days in weight loss products.

On the contrary, Capsicum is often used in topical anaesthetic creams and sprays, as it helps to reduce inflammation and works as an effective pain reliever.
These compounds are found in the flesh of the pepper that generates the heat and it is this heat that causes the raise in metabolism which enables the body to generate body heat, burn calories and fat. It is these compounds that are responsible for weight loss.
Although in the past the problem has been that those people not used to Capsicum, can find it unpalatable and hard to implement the use of pepper to a daily diet.
Nowadays there are weight loss supplements that do contain a small amount of Capsicum and the way that the supplement is manufactured means that it is gentler on the stomach therefore easier for the individual to tolerate.
